Nobby Honoured

NOBBY CLARKE 6th DAN 1927 – 1990
Posthumous Award

A Report by Valerie Clarke
John Clarke better known as Nobby was recently given a posthumous award and placed in the COMBAT HALL OF FAME. The award presented by COMBAT magazine Europe’s largest circulation Martial Arts Magazine. His award was for lifetime dedication to Judo and the Martial Arts. The Editor Paul Clifton presented the award at Combat Hall of Fame awards dinner at Aston Villa. A big thank you must go to Paul who contacted us to see if the family would object to the award. The Clarke Family and all Nobby’s Students were extremely honored and pleased that after 11 years since his death Nobby was still remembered, he certainly left his mark in the World of Martial Arts.
Martin Clarke 8th Dan also Honored
It has been very exciting year for my husband Martin, he won the World Master’s Judo Championships in June, in October he was awarded his 8th Dan in the same month Combat awarded him another HALL OF FAME award his second one, then the Internets largest On Line Martial Magazine "ROUNDHOUSE" placed Martin in their "INTERNET HALL OF FAME" only 5 other people share this honor. Finally with the ROYAL ULSTER CONSTABULARY being disbanded, the RUC Martial Arts Clubs decided to present Martin with a shield and a replica of their GEORGE CROSS. Martin has taught the RUC for many years. The real shame was that for security reasons the senior instructors, who gave Martin the award, asked not to be named.
People from all over the World have congratulated Martin yet when I asked the local councilors to help get Martin Council recognition, one Sittingbourne councilor replied that he had never heard of Martin or knew where his club was (Its in the same street as the Council Offices). Martin’s parents started the first Judo Club in Sittingbourne in 1957. The Martial Arts fraternity are proud of my husband and I think the people of Sittingbourne should be as well.
